Portuguese investment immigration

In October 2012, Portugal officially launched a brand-new immigration method - the Golden Visa Program. Currently, one can obtain the Golden Residence status by investing 500,000 euros in a local fund in Portugal or donating 200,000 euros to historical and cultural projects in Portugal.

Holding a Golden Residence Card allows one to live, work, do business, study, etc. in Portugal. With one application, three generations can travel together. One can enjoy free public education and free public medical care in Portugal, and also travel to 29 Schengen countries.

The validity period of the Golden Residence Card is two years. During each two-year period, if you have resided for a total of 14 days, have no criminal record, and keep the fund continuously existing, you can renew the Golden Residence Card. Those who have held the Golden Residence Card for five years and reached the A2 level of Portuguese language proficiency can apply for permanent residency in Portugal. According to the Portuguese Nationality Law of 2024, one can apply for Portuguese citizenship after submitting a Golden Residence application for five years. After obtaining a Portuguese passport, one can visit 188 countries around the world visa-free, including the United States, Canada, Australia, etc.

Renewal of the Golden Residence Card

3) Accumulate 14 days of residence every two years

1) Hold a Golden Residence Card for at least 5 years. During the period of holding the Golden Residence Card, meet the requirement of staying for 14 days every 2 years as part of the immigration residency requirement

The application process for investment immigration to Portugal

1. Signing the contract: Sign the contract

2. Initiate the account opening process and background investigation:Complete the KYC with the fund company and the lawyer

3. Open an account:Open a Portuguese bank account online without logging in

4. Transfer funds and subscribe to funds or cultural donations:Transfer the investment funds to the personal account, and the bank transfers them to the fund company's escrow account to complete the fund subscription or sign a project donation agreement with the foundation

5. Prepare immigration materials

6. Online review:Submit the electronic version of the complete set of materials for online review

7. Obtain approval:Obtain approval from the immigration bureau's processing system

8. Log in and record fingerprints to complete the final review:After the online approval is passed, all applicants should log in to the Portuguese Immigration Bureau at a later date to record fingerprints and submit the complete set of paper documents
